Tuesday was my 33rd birthday.
I know a lot of people my age freak out about their 30’s, but I am rather enjoying this time in my life. For once, I feel like my chronological age matches my emotional age, and it feels like I have to fight myself less about feeling comfortable in my own skin. I’ve always loved hobbies that were more popular with the older crowd— baking, reading, Hallmark movies, sewing, staying at home on a Saturday night to scrapbook and watch miniseries… And it was hard when my friends and I were at the age where that just wasn’t a popular choice for weekend plans. I did have good friends that would engage with me in these hobbies, but there was also the push to go outside my comfort zone and be social in other ways to balance that- “Ok I’ll craft tonight but tomorrow we are going out to the bar!”
But now we are all getting to the age and level where there isn’t the time, money, patience, or motivation to do all of those same things- but chillin at home and watching Netflix with a home cooked meal is shooting straight to the top of the list. Now it isn’t as much of a fight to get to have evenings go my preferred way, and the people I surround myself with generally share at least one of my hobbies.
It’s selfish and self-centered, but it’s nice all the same.
Sometimes I think that there is a lot of sacrifice in life that you are required to experience- so why not be happy and take advantage of the moments when things happen to break your way?
Overall I am just grateful. Grateful I get to exist another year and experience the ride of life. Grateful that I feel both happy and sad and not just numb anymore. Grateful I am in the position to give love without conditions, and that I am in the position to help something as pure and innocent as a dog. Grateful for the hard work of my husband that allowed me to take time to focus on Coyote Mint and being mentally fit to help others again. Grateful that I’m healthy and I have the freedom of choice. I worked really hard to get to this place, but I also know that I have had privileges and opportunities that many did not, so I am grateful to all the dumb luck that coalesced in the universe to also bring me here. Thank you for all the love and support ❤️
Here’s to another fabulous year of my 30’s!
